Gratitude is a practice. And when you start keeping a regular practice of gratitude, you're going to notice that it grows. It grows and grows and grows. Pretty soon you're saying "Thank you" for everything. "Thank you for this fresh water. Thank you for this cup, this spoon. Oh, and thank you so much for this amazing meal I'm about to have!" I've also noticed that I've been able to fall into some spaces of such deep gratitude, that I feel it in my heart, and it can nearly bring tears to my eyes, how deeply grateful I'm feeling for all that I have. Sometimes it can be as simple as the roof over my head; the clean white sheets; hot water from the shower that runs and runs and runs. Do you know how lucky we are? Do you know that so, so many people around the world are without these simplest of things we are so accustomed to having all of the time? I'm not feeling grateful out of a sense of guilt because I have these things, and other people don't. No! That was the gratitude that we were (or at least I was) brought up to have, in order for my mother to make sure I knew all that I had when I started complaining about this or that. And she was right! But this gratitude we can cultivate daily, even hourly, does not come from a place of being guilty because other people don't have what we have. It comes from a place of recognizing God, the God that gives and gives and provides and gives even more. Whatever we want or need, it can show up. And I have found that the more I am grateful for, the more and more special things just keep showing up to make my way in this life just a little smoother. More delightful. Especially when they show up unexpectedly. ⬆︎ That is the vacuum that showed up in the hallway of my hotel, while I was pacing around in my room thinking, "Boy, this carpet could use a vacuum!" LOL. It made laugh out loud! "Thank you, God!" And God laughs back. See? It's not just about this one little incident with the vacuum cleaner, I wouldn't have bothered to write you a post about such a small thing. The real thing is, these kinds of things happen all the time. They happen ALL DAY LONG. And I am completely convinced that this has everything to do with a constant sense of gratitude for all that is manifested around me. It simply opens that channel, that door, that window into a world where more and more can be given. It can be that easy these days, I believe, because we have rounded a corner, spiritually, for all of us. For all that we've been through - and I mean all of us, globally - I do believe we've woken up. Awakened to gratitude for all that we do have, and how precious is life, are our loves, and how valuable all of our comforts really are. At least it is my wish and my hope that all are awakening to this realization as true.
If you so wish to change anything in your life, start by being grateful for what you already DO have in that specific area of your life, and you open the door to receiving more.
