Energy Work

One day old Kiran

When I first met Dana, she had contacted me for an energetic session as she was concerned about her upcoming labor and delivery. She was eight months pregnant, it was her first child, and her husband was considerably larger than she. Her doctors had a number of concerns, and were already talking about inducing labor by a certain date if her son still hadn't been born yet.

Beyond what the doctors were saying, her real fear - as any new mother would feel - was how to get through this labor process, and then ensure her child was healthy, safe and that nothing went wrong. It's an internal concern, and one I believe every woman must confront as she's carrying a new life: "How much of this is me? What can I do better to ensure a good process? Where will I be if something goes wrong?" All kinds of questions can circulate when thoughts of the approaching date ensue.

It is not for us to try to take under our own control such holy and extraordinary moments.

Fear notwithstanding, I know in any circumstance to give the entire process up to Holy Spirit. It is not for us to try to take under our own control such holy and extraordinary moments. Bringing a new life into the world is one of the most sacred acts we perform, given to us by Life itself. It is our power to create, demonstrated. We are not just a compilation of biology, we are tiny expressions of God, and new children come to us with that purity of Love where only God exists. We recognize we are Love, that there is Love in the world, and we are born here to pro-create it.

When faced with a client who wants energy work, and is carrying that unborn Love in her belly, I have to be really careful. I need to be careful with all my clients, but this particular case seemed to be fraught with the potential for jeopardy. Energy work has the power to affect the body immediately, and with an unborn child how could I know what would occur? I wanted everything to be perfect: for her, for him, for the entire labor and delivery process.

These fleeting thoughts I had - that somehow I was in charge - I knew I needed to eliminate immediately. It's not up to me, I remembered, and went into our session of an energetic download for Dana, as best as I could. I gave it my all, like I do for anyone who comes to me in sincerity and love herself.

It is entirely up to me what happens during that 45 minutes, and it is entirely up to me only to get myself out of the way.

This process of doing energy work is not 'work' indeed, but then again, it is. How can getting yourself out of the way be work? It is entirely up to me what happens during that 45 minutes, and it is entirely up to me only to get myself out of the way. So when I say, "I gave it my all", it means that it requires everything you've got to entirely remove yourself from the process, and stop taking responsibility for what is occurring.

As long as my ego is present - that which is the idea of myself that I have created - nothing could have possibly been transmitted that would have been any help to Dana whatsoever. What could I possibly know that could be going on? What could I possibly know how things would turn out, if he was healthy or not, if Dana would have a good process, if anything would turn out in any way, shape or form or not! I couldn't possibly know.

But Spirit does. And with this knowledge, I give myself up and over to a Higher Power. It is not for me to know, be in charge, make decisions or create guesses. It is only, entirely for me to surrender to that Higher Power and get out of the way.

You may incorporate a set of skills you've acquired, or training you've picked up. But a healer or energy worker is really only as good as their knowledge of this: that they know nothing, and on their own, can do nothing.

This process of letting go and allowing Spirit to come through is exactly the work that energy work is. You may incorporate a set of skills you've acquired, or training you've picked up. Incorporating this knowledge into anyone's practice, be it a doctor, a lawyer, a pharmacist, chemical engineer, philanthropist, cat sitter or bank teller, assumes that you can be a vehicle for a Higher Power - one that is greater than yourself. Resting in this knowledge, nothing else matters. You are not in the way of yourself, nor are you responsible for outcomes beyond your control.

Kiran was born beautifully. Dana assured me that her labor was relatively easy and her communication to me was assuring that all had gone really well. Kiran was here, on a day he chose even though there were imminent threats of other methods to bring him into the world. He was born on his own chosen birth day.

I am quite pleased with the outcome, although this is a weakness I choose to overcome. Healers and energy workers would be better served by not focusing on, or being tied to outcomes. It is not for us to know, nor is it under any of our control. All is for the higher good, no matter what results appear.

It's very tempting to want to take responsibility for results, but this again is the ego. It would be the same ego that would blame another if things turned out badly, or not like we wanted them to: "it must be their fault". This is not a healer, this is a would-be magician, never entirely sure of his or her craft, because he or she is so invested in the outcome.

My studies of A Course in Miracles over the last 18 years have taught me that I did not create myself, God did. And so Holy Spirit as the mediator between us, can communicate to me what others would benefit from hearing. It is not for me to question what I hear, but simply to deliver the message.

Dana and Kiran are going to - together with his father - have a long and beautiful life together. He is highly intelligent and so glad to see her again. They have known each other for a very long time, much longer than can be expressed here in the terms of these lifetimes.

She shall be in love with him, and he with her. Her husband is truly fulfilled and all is good in that happily little family.
